Constellation Europe - Rack Labels Case Study

Constellation Europe ltd is part of Constellation Brands Inc based in Victor, New York.  They are the leading producer of premium wines in the world, with a portfolio that includes many well known and highly regarded wine brands.  Spirits, imported beers and other selected beverage and alcohol products complement the premium wine product range.  Constellation Brand Inc has an annual turnover of $3.77 billion and employs 6,600 people worldwide.

The company commissioned the construction of Europe’s largest beverage warehouse totalling 858,000 square feet, holding some 57 million bottles of wine (9.5 million gallons) and accounts for 15% of the UK’s total wine and alcohol market.

Rack & Shelf Labels Ltd was awarded the contract to supply and install bar-coded location labels at their site to identify over 90,000 pallet locations to be installed over a 10 week period.

Rack & Shelf Labels initially worked on the layout proposal providing numbering concept schematics for approval.  Once the layout was approved careful consideration was given to the label designs.  The remit was given to provide an operator friendly solution, maximising durability, visibility and high performance scanning capability.  Further to this, it was necessary to guarantee full functionality and compatibility with the selected warehouse management system solution.  As a result Rack and Shelf Labels designed a colour coded label solution allowing lower level use where necessary. This was because the pallet racking extended over 12m high in places.  The highest quality materials were also used to ensure that the desired result expressed in the remit was assured.

Once the label designs were approved by the customer label production started.  During this process our project managers carried out a rigorous assessment of both the project and the site.  Liaising with the main contractor and other site contractors, our project managers ensured that our installation schedule was integrated seamlessly into the overall project program and timescales were comfortably achievable.

Once the installation had begun, strict quality control procedures were carried out regularly and documented.  This ensured that quality and accuracy levels were of the highest possible standard throughout the project.  The project was segmented into phases, and once complete each phase was signed off as complete before moving onto the next phase.

To the delight of our customer the project was successfully completed without issue and on schedule.

Following completion of the project Rack & Shelf Labels ensured complete ongoing support was provided to enable maximum performance and subsequent results from the use of its products.
